Bath Business networking evening

Open invitation to the Bath Business Club networking evening, Tuesday 3rd April, from 6.30-9pm at the Bath Rugby Club

When words create a thousand pictures

Applied to Avalanche PR clients, word clouds are used for a number of purposes; a particularly useful one being the depiction of Twitter follower characteristics. This provides a beautiful way in which to monitor social media effectiveness in my view – and an easy way for clients to understand the value of this marketing activity. Here’s an example when applied to @bathbusiness (The Bath Business Club), of which I’m a member and soon to become its first lady chairperson don’t you know.

Frome’s first #tweetmeet

When asked by BBC Somerset presenter Ben McGrail if I thought a Frome tweetmeet was a recipe for an awkward blind date it did get me thinking. Will everyone be interesting beyond 140 characters? Have I orchestrated a Frome #fail? I needn’t have worried – last Friday’s tweetmeet was a hoot.

It’s good to talk. Your marketing and business success depends on it.

Businesses go to great length to recruit the right person for the job, but commonly miss the opportunity to really develop from using their expertise and insight. In an age of emails before breakfast and tweeting before bedtime, meaningful human interaction can too easily be filed under ‘do later’. Reputation is everything and if businesses don’t get it right at workforce level, marketing of any kind will prove tricky to see return on.

First Bus stops short of customer focus

In the last week or so, a new contender for the irritating advertisement category has come on the scene, courtesy of First Bus. On first viewing, you would be forgiven for expecting the commercial to evolve into something akin to Yeo Valley’s rap. But no. A mighty shame then that neither First Bus nor its sing-song advertising team consulted the word on the social media street. A quick ‘first bus’ Twitter search reveals a stream of unhappy customer comments; its Facebook page demonstrates no user interaction at all. Its Facebook page has not been updated since June.
