A giant outdoor market that took over the entire town centre last year is set to become a permanent monthly fixture in the Frome calendar. Frome Town Council has revealed ambitious plans to make the 2013 Frome Super Market a regular monthly event – taking place on the first Sunday of the month, between June and Christmas

A campaign group from Frome, Somerset has launched a day of information and ideas sharing on anti supermarket campaigning. The event is the first of its kind and has attracted support and speakers from across the UK.
The Keep Frome Local campaign group aims to use the occasion to kick start a national network, to connect similar groups nationwide also undertaking the arduous challenge of battling supermarket planning bids.

Frome, the market town on the edge of the Mendip Hills is no stranger to doing things differently. It was recently described in The Guardian as providing “proof that local people power can get things done” and having “important lessons for other councils”. Frome’s new monthly Super Market is one such initiative: the whole town becomes a market.

Wiltshire Council has enlisted the services of Westbury firm Hilton Vending to supply its tea and coffee ingredients and vending equipment, across all of its county offices and premises.
