Family firm targets majestic export growth with royal seal of approval

Kate Richards and Douglas King, directors of Bristol-based Precision Dippings Manufacturing (PDM) attended a reception at Buckingham Palace last Thursday evening hosted by The Queen, for winners of the 2016 Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

The family run company’s award win recognises the innovation behind its range of reusable waterproof arm and leg protectors for plaster casts, Bloccs.

When fitted with a plaster cast, patients are advised to keep their casts away from water so that they stay robust and help the injured limb to heal properly. The waterproof protectors developed by PDM feature rubber seals used by the company to develop the watertight wrist, ankle and neck seals it supplies to the world’s top makers of marine drysuits.

Bloccs waterproof protectors are suitable for showering, swimming and bathing. They are reusable and watertight, and will keep casts and dressings bone dry – making showering, bathing and even swimming possible during recovery.

“We’re so proud to have received this recognition. Meeting The Queen was a very special honour indeed” commented co-director Kate Richards.

“Bloccs are the first product we’ve designed, marketed and sold to consumers.

“Every year, they help thousands of people during injury recover, to be more independent and continue to enjoy much awaited holidays.”

Sales and export figures for Bloccs have increased year-on-year since the waterproof protectors were launched in 2013.

Kate said the product’s growth had exceeded all expectations and the Queen’s Award win could provide a springboard for further success.

“We see potential for growth in Australia and the United States, and are actively looking for new international distributors” she added.

Michelle Glenister, who is both a mother and orthopaedic nurse working in a fracture clinic, said:

“When my son broke his wrist two weeks before our family holiday and was plastered up to his armpit, I was gutted thinking he wouldn’t be able to swim and our holiday would be ruined.

“A friend recommended Bloccs and our holiday was saved. Excellent product – it has allowed my son to swim everyday.”

Bloccs waterproof protectors slip over injured arm or leg casts as easy as a glove or a stocking. They are reusable and available in adult and child sizes, from boots.com and bloccs.com.

Based in Yate near Bristol, Precision Dippings Manufacturing is a supplier of rubber products and dip moulded components used in global healthcare, dental, industrial and marine markets.
