Walking in a winter wonder bra

ONE in three men are too embarrassed to buy lingerie for their partner at Christmas.

That’s the finding from a Frome-based retail business and the owner is advising how couples can avoid Christmas Day disappointment.

Opal lingerie recently conducted an online poll on festive shopping habits, to determine the likelihood of men surprising a partner with a festive underwear gift.

A third of the males questioned revealed that they would feel too embarrassed to buy their partners underwear, with less than half feeling confident in getting the size right.

National figures show approximately 70 per cent of women are estimated to be wearing the wrong size bra and Randa Bott who owns Opal in the town centre is helping couples ensure there are smiles under the Christmas tree.

She commented:  “When it comes to lingerie, leaving the sizing decision to your partner alone can lead to unwrapping an embarrassing mistake.”

“Women are naturally prone to changing shape, particularly after pregnancy or after losing or gaining weight.  Being measured properly and regularly is the best way to ensure that every bra purchase is the right one.  This will help your partner to choose surprise gifts for you too. Our wish list service means ladies can pick out the items they really like and then leave easy to follow hints to their partner – subtle or otherwise!”

For those who are really stuck on what to choose, Opal lingerie offers gift vouchers.

Randa added she was pleased with the survey’s findings revealing the majority of men do have the confidence to choose lingerie as a Christmas present for their partner.

“This is great news and from the feedback I get from my customers, I know that a surprise beautiful, perfectly-fitted garment in the Christmas stocking always does the trick. Whatever your shape or size, correct-fitting and flattering underwear can make an incredible difference to how you look and feel.”

Opal provides complimentary fittings, which includes a  specialist service for women who have undergone a mastectomy.  The lingerie boutique is one of very few to stock a styled choice of prosthesis garments.
