Royal wedding smartens up Somerset gardens

The build up to the royal wedding has impacted a number of south-west businesses, including a wooden garden product and furniture company achieving record sales.

They might not be attending, or among the crowd of 1.5 million expected in London this weekend, but in advance of the big day people are paying meticulous attention to the look of their gardens, ready to receive their guests and celebrate.

Somerlap based in Mark, Somerset has already seen a 20 per cent increase on its usual sales figures for this time of year – and expects this to rise further as the good weather continues and the royal event gets nearer.

“People aren’t just putting up the bunting, they’re replacing old gates that are on their last hinges, and fixing fences and sheds in anticipation of the royal wedding celebrations” commented Kevin Bond, managing director of Somerlap.  “Royal wedding fever is helping to lift everyone’s spirits.”

“Bank holidays have traditionally been good for business, but this year has been exceptional.  It’s a great excuse for people to entertain at home and relax in the garden and people are making the most of it.”

Somerlap has launched a new website – somerlap.co.uk – to showcase its wide range of fencing, gates, decking and sectional buildings, as well as garden furniture, planters, rose arches and children’s play dens.
