Press release / Pub garden cheer helps Somerset businesses celebrate

Press release issued on behalf of Somerset-based Somerlap

Sun-drenched bank holidays have positively impacted on the region’s pub gardens and two south-west companies have good reason to celebrate.

The order book for timber-based Somerlap demonstrates the recent surge in pub garden activity. The outdoor furniture side of the Somerset business has seen a noticeable increase in orders for outdoor furniture.

It has supplied a number of its new softwood picnic tables for use in pub gardens across the county, including new additions to the Butcombe Brewery portfolio.

The Somerset brewery and pub operator has recently doubled its warehousing operations and acquired several more premises.

“The good weather has certainly contributed to sales and thanks to this feel good factor, our gardens have seen much more activity than is usual for this time of year” commented pub operations manager for Butcombe, Jon Jenssen.

He continued:

“It’s just as well we source such hard-wearing furniture, as we’ve certainly needed it. The summer-like conditions we’ve enjoyed have encouraged a very welcome upturn in bar sales.”

This year sees Somerlap celebrate its 30th anniversary and continue to recruit people to work as refurbishers on the original pallet side of the business.

The Mark-based company has since diversified into outdoor timber furniture and garden products. It has a turnover of £5 million and employs 45 staff from the local area, many of whom are long-serving.

Thanks to the early arrival of sun and royal wedding fever, Somerlap recently reported a 20 per cent increase on its average seasonal figures. Its new website – somerlap.co.uk – features its range of fencing, gates, decking and sectional buildings, plus garden furniture, planters, rose arches and children’s play dens.

Based in Wrington, Butcombe produces the West Country’s most popular bitter, which is available in over 1000 pubs and clubs within a 50 mile radius of Bristol.
