Press release issued on behalf of Frome community radio station, Frome FM
A new community partnership has made it easier for visually impaired and blind people to access local news
The Frome Talking Newspaper (FTN) and FromeFM have teamed up with the Somerset Standard to broadcast its weekly content online.
Every Friday morning, the latest edition of the paper will be available online at www.fromefm.co.uk, from the Listen Again section of the website.
This will be repeated on Saturday mornings at 8.30am as part of FromeFM’s Listen Now feature. There will also be the option to download the talking newspaper each week, as a podcast file, enabling people to listen when convenient.
“This is a really positive new community partnership” commented FromeFM’s programme director Phil Moakes.
“The Frome Talking Newspaper provides a fantastic service and by working together we can help to develop this. We hope to deliver the Somerset Standard’s news to a wider range of people who might not otherwise be able to read it.”
The Talking Newspaper will continue to be distributed by cassette tape, and to be read by FTN members.
“The Somerset Standard has supported the work of FTN since its inception and working together can only enhance the end product for our listeners” commented Gordon Lee, chairman of the Frome Talking Newspaper.
“I am extremely delighted to be collaborating with Frome FM to bring our working practices into the 21st century.”
Editor in Chief of Bath News & Media, which includes the Somerset Standard & Guardian Series, Sam Holliday, has backed the new collaboration, which combines the skills and services of three local community organisations:
“I really admire the work put in by members of the Frome Talking Newspaper group and we are all thrilled to be part of this new initiative with our friends from Frome FM” he commented.
Mr Holliday continued:
