PRESS RELEASE: Inn at Freshford takes centre stage

A Bath pub is turning itself into a makeshift theatre.

The Inn at Freshford will temporarily transform its bar into a stage on April 17, as it plays host to The Bootleg Theatre Company.

The evening of theatrics – entitled ‘Tales From The Streets’ – will include four monologue productions by four different writers, all reflecting the out-of-office-hours lives of four very different characters.

Mark Birchall, the landlord of The Inn at Freshford, said: “The monologues are written by new writers and it should be a great evening.

“The idea of pub theatre dates back more than 500 years, with landlords allowing performances in their coach yards.

“I’m hoping our revival of a mini theatre night will attract some new faces, as well as offer our regular customers something new.”

Colin Burden, the man behind the Salisbury-based Bootleg Theatre Company, added: “The audience will have the rare opportunity to see emerging artists in an intimate and picturesque space.

“Who knows; in five years time the audience may be saying ‘I saw them first at The Inn at Freshford’.”

The production will last one hour, with a 15 minute interval.

Tickets cost £5 and can be purchased in advance at The Inn at Freshford, or on the door on the evening.
