Press release / Inn at Freshford attracts acclaimed blues resident

Press release issued for Somerset country pub, the Inn at Freshford

A musician who performed on an album by Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits lead singer and guitarist, has become a resident performer at the Inn at Freshford.

Slide and blues guitarist Kevin Brown who lives in Box returns from his US tour of Dallas and Nashville this month, to perform at the pub.

He’ll perform with his blues trio next Friday night, 23rd March.

“This is a real coup to have such a big name play here regularly” commented Mark Birchall, who recently celebrated his first year as manager of the Inn at Freshford.

“Kevin’s sound is incredible and the intimate performances here at the pub have attracted a good following.

“We hope that his appearance will entice more people out of Bath and the surrounding villages to come and enjoy this – and the new experience on offer here.”

Kevin Brown worked with Mark Knopfler during the 1990s and was described by the Dire Straits frontman as offering “so much more than your average slide player”.

Kevin’s trio, includes Bernard O’Neill on bass guitar and Mick Candler on drums.

The local guitarist’s musical history includes a number of notable gigs, including performing on the main Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival. Martin Simpson, fellow slide and acoustic guitarist who has been nominated 26 times at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, has described Kevin Brown as “one of the UK’s most underrated acoustic players”.

Following an idea sparked by a conversation on Twitter, the Inn at Freshford (@innatfreshford) hosted its first stargazing night earlier this year. More about Kevin Brown’s nights can be found on the pub’s Facebook page.
