Blog inspiration from illustrator Alice Tait

This map was my introduction to Alice Tait – an artist who blogs regularly to attract new commissions

Several years ago I picked up a beautiful map of London’s South Bank, illustrated by Alice Tait.  At the time it captivated me and being something of a nice things collector, I’ve kept it, with my growing pile of tube maps – something else I can never throw away.

This evening it was a pleasure to meet and hear Alice talk about her work and illustrative career, at one of the events organised by SEED, in Frome’s Black Swan Arts.  Her professional journey is an inspiring one, driven by her genuine passion as an artist.

She spoke of the various opportunities she has enjoyed but also the potential for becoming too pigeonholed in her work – something that becoming a blogger has helped her to avoid.  By regularly blogging examples of her work, Alice has attracted new attention and new business, as well providing a place for existing fans to enjoy her latest works.  Posting her drawings regularly on her blog has attracted not just comments but scope for new and more varied commissions.  Her blogging style is simple, regular in frequency and true to her work:  any artist wanting to attract more work should take a hand-drawn leaf out of Alice Tait’s blogging sketch book.

Above is the illustration which featured in the London tourist map I picked up – which tonight I bought as a print – a fitting tribute to my favourite part of London.
